The Ogden-Weber
Applied Technology College offers short-term training courses
designed to enhance and upgrade skills. These courses are offered in various
ways depending on your need.
Accelerated classes
– are short-term in length usually under thirty hours. These courses
give you the skills you need to complete the stated objectives of the
class. They are designed for the individual who either needs a refresher
course, wants to enhance already existing skills or just wants to learn
something new.
Continuing Education classes
– are short-term in length and are designed to give the individual
continuing education credit towards their specialized licensure. Various
continuing education classes are taught each term.
Custom-Fit Company training classes
– are usually short-term in length but can be customized based on
company needs. If there is a class you need call our custom-fit department
for availability at 801.612.4161.
Program Lock-Step classes
– are short-term in length usually under 150 hours. These courses
are taught on campus as part of our regular programs but can also be taken
as stand-alone courses for skill upgrade. These courses provide credit
towards OWATC programs.

FORKLIFT OPERATOR UPDATE
OSHA (4 hrs):
This course is designed to cover OSHA regulation changes and update
certified forklift operators on OSHA requirements. Federal regulations
require forklift operators to complete update training once every 3 years.
Individual companies and ISO certifications may impose more frequent update
training requirements.

FORKLIFT SAFETY OSHA
I (8 hrs):
(Prerequisite: Verifiable forklift operating experience within the previous
12 months of enrollment). This course is designed to give personnel with
previous forklift experience the opportunity to become certified forklift
operators. OSHA regulations pertaining to forklift operations are covered.
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates receive Ogden- Weber
Applied Technology College certificates and cards, which certify their
ability to operate a forklift in accordance with state and federal standards.
This course has a letter of support from Utah OSHA. The instructor is
also an authorized outreach trainer for the Department of Labor for General
Industry, which includes the forklift operation section (1910.178).

This planning and project management course is designed to provide
experience in working with both proven and new methodologies in planning
and developing projects and stepping through the life cycles of different
types of projects. The course prides hands-on working experiences with

RESTAURANT BANQUETS/CATERING
This course covers the essential tasks associated with banquets and catering.
Students cover the responsibilities of a caterer such as catering cost
breakdown, to include staffing and supervision, menu creation, and portion
control. Students study about the advantages and disadvantages of catering,
time management, and dealing and negotiating with customers. Other topics
covered consist of table settings and service, buffet set-up and take-down,
knowledge of special meals and events as well as the demographics of banquet

Agency Certification
This nine-hour, self-paced course will prepare individuals for the EPA

Pharmacology
Utilizing a lecture-based format, medical assisting students develop
an understanding of the impact of drugs on various body systems. This
course discusses the classification of drugs and their actions and the
use and side effects of common pharmacological agents. Topics included
are antibiotics, psychotropic agents, and drugs impacting the musculoskeletal,
gastrointestinal, circulatory, respiratory, urinary, endocrine, nervous
and reproductive systems.

Phlebotomy
Phlebotomy Technicians are an important member of the health
care team working with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff and patients.
Their primary role is to collect blood for accurate and reliable laboratory
testing. This is usually accomplished by venipuncture or capillary collection.
Phlebotomy Technicians are multi-skilled professionals who, in addition
to phlebotomy techniques, must be skilled in the collection, transportation
and processing of laboratory specimens, customer service, and safety compliance.
Phlebotomy Technicians are employed in hospitals, outpatient clinics,
central laboratories, blood banks, plasma centers, physician offices,
long-term care facilities, home health organizations and insurance companies.

Radiology Basics (Instructor Approval)
In Radiology Basics, students study the basics of radiology as it pertains
to radiology exams in a physician's office. This course teaches the use
and care of an x-ray machine, darkroom procedures, use and care of film
processor, radiation protection, patient management, proper positioning
and setting technical factors on routine exams of the chest, extremities,
pelvis, abdomen, and using a phantom. Students apply and practice their
skills through simulated procedures. Prior to taking this course, students
must successfully complete Medical Terminology and Anatomy/Physiology
or have adequate workplace experience (upon instructor approval).
