OWATC & Powell Foundation Golf Fundraiser

On Monday, September 25, golfers from throughout the business community raised money for OWATC scholarships at an innovatively fun tournament. OWATC Development Director, Noall Knighton said, “This was a very different kind of tournament. Not only did we exceed our financial goals, but we also met other important goals which were to make sure that the players learned about the College, and that they had enough fun to want to attend each year.”

Several companies, individuals and organizations sponsored the 128 golfers that played. The Powell Foundation was the Title sponsor and the micro-fiber lined vest they provided contained the logo of the college and the Powell Foundation. American First Credit Union sponsored the refreshment cart and Weber State Credit Union sponsored the breakfast.

Fifteen college programs were featured at holes along with eighteen hole sponsors. The golfers had the opportunity to learn something about the college and participate in various games to earn special prizes. The program and sponsors were able to interact with the golfers and promote there various interests. The cosmetology students teamed up with 5 States Beauty Supply and provided all the golfers with a Men’s Matrix hair care product, Brady Industries gave away a vacuum, the machining program held a puzzle contest and gave away a special chess set. Rick Brown from the college’s bricklaying program held a contest to guess the weight of a brick bear. Drafting gave out a $50 gift certificate to the player that could guess the square feet in a house by looking at the drawings. The sheet metal program made a decorative figurine and held a drawing for the winner and the electrical program had the players guess the number of wire nuts in a large jar and gave out a DVD player and a boom box, courtesy of Platt Electric Supply.

The marketing department designed and produced “Student Success Story” posters. The posters contained information about students that have attended Ogden-Weber Applied Technology and tell a story about their experience and continued success. These posters were placed around the golf course and gave the players a clear sense of how their money is used by the college and whom the proceeds are benefiting.

The awards luncheon was a tremendous success. The audience was given the privilege of hearing from two former students. Nallely Ruiz and Adam Murillo were given the opportunity to tell their stories and about how the College has impacted their life. The speeches were very impactful and gave the donors a first hand look at how scholarship donations transform lives.

We would like to express our appreciation to the sponsors, players, faculty, students, staff, Board of Directors, Foundation Trustees, and the Ogden Golf and Country Club for their part in delivering a successful event for the benefit of Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College.
